Eco- Hike and West End Village

On this tour you will get more than a hike up a mountain and a great view, you will also get to experience West End, a very popular tourist area on the western end of Roatan.

Firstly you will travel to Carambola Gardens a perfect place for hiking, bird watching,wildlife, and scenic photography, and nature studies. Carambola is in Sandy Bay a 15 minute ride from the pier.  On arrival you will be welcomed by a guide who will take you first on a tour of the lower area of the garden where the flowering plants, orchids, exotic spices and fruit trees, including the very popular “Chocolate Tree “and, of course the world famous mahogany tree are found as well as an interesting new area reserved for the islands medicinal plants. You will then go on a 1.2 mile hike to the top of Carambola Mountain passing through some Cahoun Palm forests, the leaves from which are used to thatch houses and palapas .The nut- like fruit is a favorite for the island rabbits to feed on .You may come across some of these island rabbits and playful monkey lala lizards scurrying along the jungle trails as you enjoy your hike. Be sure and bring your camera as you make your way to the summit of Carambola Mountain.  Upon reaching the top, sit and relax on the deck and enjoy Roatan’s most magnificent views with all the colors of the distant coral reef laid out before you and the dolphin pens where the dolphin encounters take place at Anthony’s Key Resort.

When you descend from the summit fresh fruit and water is available and the use of the restrooms .A visit to the gift shop can be made before you board the bus which will take you to West End, a charming seaside village with beaches, bars and restaurants, gift shops and stores. Dive shops line the main street and snorkel gear and kayaks are available for rent. You have an hour and half to relax on the beach, snorkel, shop or buy a snack or drink. The return drive to the pier will be along the south side of the island. En route you will pass through ocean side communities like Flowers Bay, Gravel Bay and Constellation Bight. A great view of the ship at the dock makes a wonderful photo opportunity.
